Excellence in Metal Fabrication

Spirit AeroSystems is one of the world’s largest fabricators of aircraft components, offering customers a wide range of solutions including metallic manufacturing and assembly, complex machining, skin and sheet-metal fabrication, tubing fabrication and installation and chemical processing. Spirit AeroSystems has more than 2.6 million square feet dedicated to fabrication around the globe.

Centers of Excellence in Hard and Soft Metal Machine Fabrication

Spirit recently expanded its already sizable fabrication business with the new five-axis center of excellence located at the company’s headquarters in Wichita, Kansas, and the 3- and 4-axis center of excellence in McAlester, Oklahoma.  Wichita is also home to one of the world’s largest automated chemical-processing lines.

5-axis machining: Spirit offers extensive hard-metal capabilities and complex high-speed machining for fuselage, pylon and wing structures, including aluminum fabrication up to 23 feet and seat track machining in this 20,000-square-foot facility.

3- and 4-axis machining: Spirit offers a range of hard-metal capabilities and multi-spindle machines to deliver customers quality manufactured parts with industry-leading cycle times and optimized costs.

Skin Fabrication

With some of the largest tanks in the industry, Spirit’s skin fabrication processes include skin stretch forming up to 1,500 tons, laser scribe, trim and drill and chemical milling.

Automated Processes

Spirit uses advanced knowledge-based engineering to automate the design process and precise CNC programming for automated control of trimming, drilling and fastening operations. Use of the latest robotics and automation technologies results in high-quality, lower-cost components for customers.
