Prestwick, Scotland, Feb. 24, 2017 -- Spirit AeroSystems (Europe) Ltd. [NYSE: SPR] today celebrated further investment in the Prestwick site with the opening of a new despatch centre.

Spirit President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Gentile and Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Keith Brown opened the centre, which was constructed to complement an existing hangar used to assemble wing structures for the Airbus A350XWB aircraft.

Cabinet Secretary Brown added, “I am pleased to open this new facility, which will allow for increased efficiency and competitiveness and offer world-class aerospace engineering facilities in South Ayrshire.

“Scotland’s aerospace industry currently employs around 4,300 and is experiencing strong growth. We are fully committed to remaining an attractive location for ambitious companies like Spirit AeroSystems to prosper and continue to play an important part in our economy.”
