IAM Contract Vote

On Wednesday, June 21, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is conducting a membership vote on a proposed contract. The polling location is Hartman Arena, 8151 N. Hartman Arena Drive in Park City.  Doors open at 7am, ballots are available after a 9am presentation, and polls close at 4pm.  You must have a picture ID to vote (Spirit badge, driver’s license, or state identification).

Any IAM-represented employee scheduled to work on the 21st may be excused without pay for any amount of time up to their entire shift.  This allows an employee to take off their entire shift or take off part of their shift be paid for their working time.

  • Third shift employees would be excused Tuesday night / Wednesday morning.  They should plan to report to work at their normal start time on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.
  • AWW employees whose normal work week includes Wednesdays may be excused as described above.  AWW employees whose normal work week starts on Thursday should plan to report at their normal start time.

Voting employees should clock their time as unpaid, excused absence (EXAB)

When and where will the vote take place?

How much time can an employee take off to vote?

Will employees receive paid time for voting?
Any time off will be unpaid, excused absence and should be recorded as EXAB.

Can employees who do not pay IAM dues be excused for the contract vote?
Yes, any IAM-represented employee may choose to be excused for any or all of their shift on Wednesday, June 21.

Can an employee work part of the day, go vote, and return to work?
Yes.  They should record their absence as EXAB.

Does it really matter if I vote?
Ratification of the contract will be decided by a majority of those who vote.

  • For example, there are approximately 7,500 members of the bargaining unit. If only 1,500 vote and 751 vote against ratification, then the contract would fail.
  • In that case, a very small majority (approximately 10%) of the unit has made a decision for all 7,500 members.

Just one vote – YOUR vote – can make a difference.  Voting is a personal choice and you should make the right decision for you and your family.

What happens after the vote?
Employees will receive communication on the outcome of the vote on or before Thursday, June 22.
