Ingredients (please include quantities/weights)
- 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 oz unsweetened chocolate (1 square of baking bar)
- 21 ounces canned beef broth (2 10.5 oz cans)
- 1 15oz can tomato sauce
- 2 Tbsp cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
- shredded cheddar cheese
- Spaghetti noodles
Instructions/Steps
Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring frequently, until tender, about 6 min.
Add beef, in batches if necessary, and cook, breaking up with a wooden spoon, until browned. Drain well.
Add all spices, chocolate, bay leaf, broth, tomato sauce and stir to mix well. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 1 1/2 hrs stirring occasionally.
Serve over hot, drained spaghetti. Top each with generous amount of shredded cheese. Can also top with chopped onions if desired.
Preparation Tips / Special Notes
This sauce is easy to freeze - we think it's even better as leftovers! Just cook up more spaghetti when you're ready to eat more!
