The Propulsion Structures & Systems organization occupies five buildings on Spirit AeroSystems’ Wichita campus. These facilities house personnel and equipment that support machine and composite fabrication, integrated assembly and their supporting processes. Additional fabrication processes provided include complex machining, sheet metal, tubing fabrication/installation, wire bundle assemblies, decals and signs. With all of these capabilities, we can meet multiple customer requirements for general aviation, military and commercial jet markets around the world.

Propulsion Structures & Systems produces nacelle products such as thrust reversers, fan cowls and inlets for large commercial aircraft. One of Spirit’s most readily recognizable products is the under-wing component package that includes the nacelle/thrust-reverser and pylon configurations for every 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777 commercial airline product designed by Boeing. Spirit AeroSystems also holds the engineering and certification authority on all the commercial airplane under-wing components.

This experience with the design, fabrication and assembly of complex, multi-contoured, light-weight, acoustically treated nacelle and thrust-reverser components makes Spirit AeroSystems a prime source of product development for future commercial, defense, and general aviation engine interface structural packages.

Spirit’s pylon program provides fairings, secondary structures and systems on most large commercial jets. Our pylon manufacturing and design techniques incorporate exacting interface tolerances, while supplying fully integrated electrical/environmental system components, for a turn-key assembly with a high strength-to-weight performance quotient.

The under-wing products supplied by Spirit AeroSystems feature state-of-the-art designs that are environmentally and regulatory compliant, safe, lightweight, durable, and capable of delivering superior acoustic performance and enhanced engine performance via fuel-burn efficiency.
