 Message from Rod Cheatham

CheathamRSpirit AeroSystems continues to grow and change. Some of those changes are more visible than others, of course. Winning new customers is certainly very visible and gratifying and we've been fortunate to be able to do just that quite a few times recently. Announcing new manufacturing sites around the world is both visible and exciting and we're thrilled to show this tangible evidence of Spirit's global growth.

But there are many other things that are much less obvious which must be done in order to allow for complete separation of our company systems and processes from those of Boeing's. It has been more than three and a half years since the Boeing divestiture which led to what is now Spirit AeroSystems, and much has been done.

Now we are about to take another very important step forward toward total separation. Beginning January 2, many Spirit Aftermarket Customer Support personnel began working in SAP. Just in case you aren't familiar, SAP is an acronym for Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing. In this version of Spirit in the Sky you will read more about SAP and how it is one of the key elements of system separation for Spirit. Beginning January 26, additional Spirit users supporting legacy Boeing programs began to use SAP for the first time. And, as we write this newsletter, more people and more programs are coming online.

It is a time of change for our people in Aftermarket Customer Support and throughout Spirit AeroSystems. We want to make sure that you know what we're up to and how that will affect how we do our jobs. Therefore, contributors to this edition include Aftermarket subject matter experts, as well as members of the Spirit SAP project implementation team. SAP will change the way our employees interact with data, with systems and with each other, but not how we interact with you.

As always, we welcome your questions and comments. You are our first priority. The more we change, the more that stays the same.

Focus on SAP

Aftermarket Implementation Team

Change is good! Spirit AeroSystems is in the process of implementing SAP software for our production, finance and business applications. Internally we have been working on assuring this is a smooth transition for quite some time and we’ll be making our first shipments in the new system in April of this year.

This change should be mostly invisible to our Aftermarket customers, but there will be a change in the format of some of the paperwork that you see with shipments and the invoice you receive. Customers can still send their Purchase Orders in the same way (EDI, FAX, e-mail, and Spirit Web), we’ll still be responding to quotes from all sources and providing the same delivery service (In stock orders shipped one day after received), and we’ll just be using a different internal system!

We’ll be sharing samples of the changed documents (packing slips and invoices) in the near future, but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact your Customer Service Representatives at 1-866-526-8929. And remember -- change is good!

Gold Star Team

We hear a lot about implementing SAP, but what does that mean to the end user? SAP will change the way we have done business in the past. SAP links our company organizations with many accounting, engineering and logistical tools. In essence, SAP and the changes this new software creates will cause end users to evaluate their current processes. To help them with this change, the Project Northstar "Gold Star" team was formed.

The team, managed by Mike Miller, is available to all end users for such problem resolution affecting timekeeping (CATS), our new paperless factory (EWI), and other critical processes. While the end user at Spirit AeroSystems will see many changes, our external customer will have a seamless transition. Since our first "Go-Live" date on January 26 with SAP, many of the problems associated with a new implementation have been resolved by the Gold Star team.

End users may contact a Site Key User or Gold Star team member for assistance.
