“Elephants on Board” was written and illustrated by Spirit employees Rachel Williams and Tim Webb and published through a Spirit sponsorship. The book tells the story of the elephants’ journey from Africa to their new home.

Spirit and the Zoo celebrated the book launch with a reading of “Elephants on Board” by Spirit Chief Administration Officer and Zoo Board Member Sam Marnick to first graders at Washington Elementary in Wichita. The Zoo is donating “Elephants on Board” children’s books to all public elementary schools in Wichita and the surrounding area.

“Spirit AeroSystems is proud to be part of this incredible new habitat at the Sedgwick County Zoo. The creation of this children’s book enhances the experience. Now children can not only see the elephants up close in their Zoo habitat, but they can also include the elephants in their story time,” Marnick said.

Spirit was the lead donor for the Spirit Camp Zambezi Learning Lodge in the Elephant Habitat, which opened in May 2016. Copies of “Elephants on Board” can be purchased at Watermark Books & Café at 4701 East Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218.
