Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) and President/CEO James Nastars of Meritrust Credit Union were selected as campaign co-chairs for the 2017 Tour de Cure – Wichita. The 2017 Tour de Cure, a fundraiser for the ADA, will be Saturday, April 29. Spirit AeroSystems will again host the event.
“PEC chose to be a presenting sponsor for this important community event because it works to improve the lives of the 11 percent of Wichitans who suffer from diabetes. It has also brought awareness to our staff and community,” Young said. “If our efforts can improve the life of just one person, it’s all worth it – especially if we can prevent one of the 86 million Americans with prediabetes from becoming diabetic.”
As campaign co-chairs, Nastars and Young have led fundraising efforts for the event, with a goal of 500 riders and $500,000 raised in support of ADA.
“Being a part of Tour de Cure is the perfect opportunity for Meritrust to live out our mission of improving the lives of our members and the communities we serve,” Nastars said. “The funds raised by Tour de Cure provide critical diabetes research and resources to children and adults impacted by diabetes. It’s an honor to partner with Professional Engineering Consultants and Spirit AeroSystems in supporting the American Diabetes Association.”
Today, nearly 294,000 Kansans and 30 million Americans have options for managing diabetes, but there are still devastating consequences. Thanks to research and dollars raised through fundraising such as Tour de Cure, the American Diabetes Association looks forward to the day a cure is discovered.
“Spirit AeroSystems is excited to again serve as host sponsor of the Tour de Cure,” said Spirit Vice President of Defense Programs Tony Kondrotis. “By participating in the Tour de Cure, we empower the ADA with the necessary foundation and support to fulfill its mission to lead the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes.”
Welcome Back, Cooper
The 2017 Tour de Cure – Wichita marketing campaign has featured last year’s campaign superstar, the now 6-year-old Cooper. Last year, the ADA shared the story of Cooper’s family and their journey through his young diagnosis of diabetes, learning to manage it and the role the American Diabetes Association played in helping along the way.
Now, as a kindergartener, Cooper and his parents, Ric and Taryn, are balancing the management of diabetes with making sure this typical 6-year-old has a typical childhood. “We have been humbled by the love and support we’ve received from the ADA,” says Ric.
