WICHITA,KANSAS,USA

Wichita is celebrated throughout the world as the Air Capital because of the city’s unparalleled history in aircraft manufacturing. The wichitapreeminence continues today. Five major aircraft manufacturers, along with McConnell Air Force Base, call Wichita home.

With a population of over 350,000, Wichita is the largest city in Kansas. The metropolitan population of nearly 600,000 makes Wichita the 51st largest city in the United States. Archaeological evidence indicates the area was a Native American trading center for thousands of years. But it wasn't until 1868 keeperthat a trading post was situated at the confluence of the Arkansas and the Little Arkansas Rivers, and a town began to take shape. Two years later, it was incorporated and officially named Wichita after one of the area’s native tribes.

For a period of time during the days of the "Old West," Wichita was a major railhead for cattle driven up from Texas. Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson were among the peace officers hired to control the cowboys who spent their paydays here and contributed to the town’s rapid growth. In the early 20th century, a different kind of pioneering spirit literally caught wind as aviation entrepreneurs put the burgeoning city on the world map. Over the years, Wichita’s special brand of entrepreneurial spirit has given birth to ideas and brands as diverse as Mentholatum, White Castle hamburgers, Pizza Hut, Coleman, Rent-A-Center and Big Dog Motorcycles.
