Spirit is a generous partner in local communities.

Each year Spirit makes corporate grants to support the communities where our employees live and work. From funding STEM education efforts to supporting the United Way, we contribute to programs and activities that enhance the quality of life and help solve local problems.

Spirit employees show their generosity by making charitable donations through the Spirit AeroSystems Good Neighbor Fund.

The Good Neighbor Fund is an employee-run nonprofit organization funded through voluntary employee payroll deductions. An employee-elected board of directors determines where the funds are allocated. Through the Good Neighbor Fund, Spirit employees contribute around $2.5 million annually to local causes.

Areas of Focus

Prestwick check presentation to The Brain Tumour Charity
Spirit AeroSystems employees in Prestwick, Scotland raised more than £15,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity in 2014 during the company’s annual Charity Burns Supper.

We focus on activities that bring communities together to enhance the quality of life and solve local problems. Specifically, we support projects related to:

  • Education: Spirit is committed to supporting access to primary and secondary education through strengthening skills in literacy, STEM2 (science, technology, engineering, math and manufacturing) and higher education opportunities in the engineering, aerospace and manufacturing industry.
  • Arts & Culture: Our focus in this area is to improve the quantity and quality of performing and visual arts in our communities, with an emphasis on programs that appeal to a wide range of audiences
  • Civic Engagement & Environment: Spirit invests in civic innovators who help our cities promote workforce and economic development, diversity and multicultural understanding. We also look for environmental programs that focus on education, conservation and recycling.
  • Health & Human Services: We target programs that aim to meet the basic needs of citizens in our communities, while providing long-term sustainable solutions for self-sufficiency.

The needs of the community typically outpace the ability to meet them. As a result, we have to be selective about which causes can be included in our participation program. Typically, Spirit AeroSystems does not support endowments, amateur sports, travel, medical research, walks/runs/marathons, camps, competitions, individual school projects, or hospitals.
